Professional Development
NDI offers professional development services to classroom teachers as a contracted vendor through the New York City Department of Education. Our professional development workshops provide participants with a direct experience of the performing arts process and enable them to reflect on the importance of arts learning in a child's education.
The professional development program for classroom teachers at NDI's partner public schools augments the year-long services already provided to the students in the NDI In-School Program. The program provides participants with the first hand experience of NDI's ensemble performance model, guided observation and reflection on the NDI methodology, and the opportunity to explore collaborations between the NDI artistic curriculum and the teachers' curriculum. By enhancing the classroom teachers' understanding of NDI's method, artistic curriculum, and creative process, we help the teachers make methodological connections, thus expanding their own teaching repertory.

Teaching/Learning Process
Next Session:

NDI continues its partnership with Bank Street College of Education. This graduate level course is designed for arts educators and general classroom teachers. The term process pedagogy was conceived by Dr. Nancy McCormick Rambusch, renowned early childhood educator and founder of the American Montessori movement, to characterize the teaching methods of the National Dance Institute. Dr. Rambusch observed the NDI program and then developed a graduate course for general classroom teachers, using a direct experience with NDI to reflect on the teaching / learning process.
This summer institute is designed to provide general classroom teachers and arts educators with the opportunity to observe and participate alongside children eight-to-twelve years of age in a dance program that will culminate in an ensemble performance. A background in dance IS NOT required.
