2009-2010 Curricular Theme - Storytelling Around the World
During the 2009-2010 season, thousands of New York City school children and their families will have their NDI experience enhanced as they explore tales and fables that reach across cultures. Storytelling Around the World is NDI's official curricular theme for the year, inspiring and informing the learning process in all of NDI's classrooms.
July 2009 - NDI'S curricular theme is introduced during the Irene Diamond Summer Institute
November 14, 2009 - NDI Celebration Team performs at Symphony Space and gives the audience a preview of the 2010 Event of the Year, performing "We Real Cool" and "A Tale From Egypt."
December 2009- January 2010 - NDI Partner Schools hold annual Mid-Year Assemblies, giving children the opportunity to perform for their parents and school communities. The young dancers showcased the movement they've learned so far, as well as choreography inspired by NDI's Storytelling theme.
April 2010 - NDI's Annuall Gala celebrates Storytelling around the world. The legendary performer - and storyteller - Harry Belafonte was honored at NDI's Annual Gala on April 19. Gala guests were treated to a preview of pieces from the 2010 Event of the Year, including "Why We Tell the Story," "The Lion and the Mouse," and "African Finale."
