NDI Holds Residency at East Harlem School

During Februaryand March 2009, fifth through eighth grade students at East Harlem School explored the culture of Mexico through dance during National Dance Institute’s (NDI) two-week residency in their newly renovated building.  NDI Associate Artistic Director Tracy Straus and Teaching Artist Dr. Jenny Seham, accompanied by Musician Tomas Fujiwara on drums, led the classes. The young dancers performed original choreography inspired by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, El Día De Las Muertos (Day of the Dead), and the Zapatista movement.
